White Settlement Brewer surges in first half, thumps Azle

White Settlement Brewer scored on its first four possessions to take a lead against Azle that the Bears wouldn’t relinquish Friday en route to a 55-14 District 6-5A win at Brewer Bear Stadium. Brewer’s Curtis Taylor and Bryce Miller took turns scoring two touchdowns each in the first half before Azle could respond. Miller and Taylor each added fourth-quarter scores to finish with three TDs each.

Key players: Miller was used to control the ball, carrying 16 times for 109 yards and the three scores. Taylor led the Bears in rushing, finishing the night with 113 yards and the three scores. Azle quarterback Ken Seals threw an 82-yard TD pass to Dylan Gibson in the third quarter.

Key stat: Adrian Pena capped the night for Brewer with a 68-yard interception return for a score.

Records: Brewer 3-6, 2-4 in 6-5A; Azle 2-7, 2-4.
