Big returns help Burleson Centennial run over Joshua

Burleson Centennial senior Kelton Tezeno set up on score with a long interception return and added a 55-yard kick return for a score as the Spartans defeated Joshua 44-14 Friday in a District 9-5A game at Burleson ISD Stadium.

Key players: Centennial QB Payton Strambler ran for scores of 49 and 1 yards and threw a 64-yard TD to Xander Richards for the Spartans. Jonathan Reed added a 4-yard scoring run and Darrell Williams scored from 18 yards out. Joshua running back Jermaine Deary scored on a 66-yard run and finished with 10 carries for 126 yards. The Owls other score came on a 4-yard run by Josh Emberton.

Key stat: Centennial, which is headed to the playoffs for its third straight season, spread things around in their running game Friday as 11 players ran the ball. The Spartans finished with 236 yards rushing on 35 attempts (6.7 yards per carry).

Records: Joshua, 1-7, 0-6 9-5A; Centennial, 7-1, 5-1.
