Mansfield Timberview senior guard Chris Mullins scored 24 of his game-high 36 points during a second-half rally as the Wolves beat Fort Bend Marshall 74-66 in March to win the Class 5A state basketball championship.

On Wednesday night, Mullins committed to Rice.

In his tweet, he thanked Timberview among others - “for letting me come in as a freshman and make an impact on the program and providing a great environment to learn and lead.”

Mullins, who was state title game MVP, was also named District 10-5A Defensive MVP, TABC all state and all region, and Star-Telegram super team. He averaged 18 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Mullins, who scored 21 points against CC Veterans Memorial in the 5A state semifinals, also had an offer from Central Michigan, and had interest from SMU, Arizona and Kansas.
