It turns out, the Red River rivalry isn’t exclusive to college football.

Southlake Carroll announced Tuesday that its non-district game against Oklahoma power Jenks will be played at the Cotton Bowl. The bout is slated for 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28, during Week 1 of the Texas high school football season.

The contest will be newly promoted Carroll head coach Lee Munn’s first as the permanent head coach.

In that game, Carroll, an eight time state champion, will embark on its quest for its first state title since 2011. Jenks is an 18-time champion in Oklahoma high school football.

Southlake Carroll is set to return four Star-Telegram All-Area selections to its offense: wide receivers Brody Knowles and Blake Gunter and offensive linemen Tristan Dare and Luke Wilson.

Knowles and Gunter are racking up the offers, while Dare is committed to Michigan and Wilson is pledged to Oklahoma.

The Dragons will also look to replace a fair amount of production with quarterback Angelo Renda and wide receiver Brock Boyd heading to Pitt and Ohio State, respectively.

They also lost key defensive players, including All-Area selections Robbie Ladd, Parker Harris, Crawford Taylor, Gavin Strange and Marcus Brouse.

In addition to Jenks, Southlake Carroll will face North Crowley and Allen in non-district bouts. The non-district competition is a massive step up compared to recent years.
