Boswell girls basketball lands next head coach after state championship season
Fort Worth Boswell girls basketball, after a Class 6A Division II state championship win, has a new head coach.
On Wednesday, May 14, Eagle Mountain-Saginaw ISD Athletics announced Jeffrey Chatman as the successor to John Reese, who retired in April. Chatman has 14 years of head coaching experience and an overall record of 362-134.
He most recently coached at DeSoto, where he led the Eagles to a 20-17 record, a fourth-place finish in District 11-6A and two playoff victories. He also coached at Steele, where he won 30 or more games from 2016 to 2018.
Chatman has led his teams to eight district championships, nine regional championships and a Class 6A state semifinal appearance.
In 2016, he was named the San Antonio Express Coach of the Year, and in 2022, he was named the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches’ Texas Outstanding Coach of the Year. Throughout his career, he has coached over 40 collegiate athletes.
Chatman will inherit a roster filled with talent — one that is expected to contend for another Texas high school girls’ basketball championship. Three Boswell players who made the Star-Telegram All-Area Super Team can return next season: Seleste Massey, Sydney Durrah and Salena Carrasco.
In the 2024-25 season, Boswell finished the season with 39-2 overall record and an undefeated District 3-6A championship.
Chatman has large shoes to fill — Reese has earned consecutive Star-Telegram Coach of the Year honors as the pioneers have risen to the top of Texas basketball.
