Here are 10 Fort Worth-area high school football players to watch in Week 9
Week 9 of the Texas high school football season starts Thursday and expect more great performances from Fort Worth-area football players.
Keep an eye out for these 10 players this week:
Brian Furch, Sr., RB, Arlington Heights: Furch is coming off a season-high 282 yards rushing and four touchdowns in the Yellowjackets upset win, 41-31 over Colleyville Heritage. Heights improved to 7-0. Furch went over the century mark this season with 1,076 yards rushing and 17 TDs.
Lior Mendji, Jr., QB, Timber Creek: The Falcons fell short against Eaton last week, but Mendji had a huge performance. He had the best game of the season after throwing for 389 yards on 25 of 32 passing with a pair of touchdowns. He looks to continue the hot hand against Haltom.
Solomon Hopkins, Sr., FS, Midlothian Heritage: Hopkins was huge on the defensive side as the Jaguars edged out Ennis. Hopkins had 12 solo tackles, 16 total tackles and made one interception.
Campbell Stites, Sr., LB, Grapevine Faith: The Lions went over the 0.500 mark and won their district opener against John Paul II. Stites made 19 tackles, forced two fumbles and batted down three passes.
Grant Peretz, Sr., WR, Richland: Peretz had a monster game against Newman Smith with 232 yards receiving and four TDs. He is the team’s leading receiver with a team-high 828 yards and 12 touchdowns. He’s tied for the lead with 31 catches, and is averaging 27 yards per catch and 118 yards per game.
John David Black, Jr., QB, Colleyville Covenant: JDB had a big game for the Cougars as they picked up their second win of the season. He threw for 365 yards and three touchdowns. He’ll look for another big night this week against Lake Country.
Graham Knowles, Jr., QB, Southlake Carroll: In his first start, the 6-6 quarterback was nearly perfect last week in the Dragons 49-3 win over Keller Central. He completed 14 of 15 passes for 135 yards and two touchdowns. He’ll look to keep it going against Eaton.
Trey Wilson, Sr., LB/DE, Bell: Wilson continues to be one of the leading defenders this season. Against Boswell last week, Wilson had 10 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Bell looks to rebound this week against North Crowley.
Hauss Hejny, Jr., QB, Aledo: The Bearcats rolled past Burleson Centennial to hand the Spartans their first loss of the season. In that game, Hejny had his best game. He rushed for 160 yards and two TDs, from 52 and 75 yards. He also threw for 265 yards and four touchdowns.
Carterrious Brown, Soph., WR/CB, Arlington Seguin: Brown only had five catches in the Cougars’ big win over Joshua, but four of them were for touchdowns. He finished with 197 yards receiving and looks to keep it going against Ennis.
