Wide receiver Carterrious Brown led Arlington Seguin with four touchdown receptions over Joshua as the Cougars won 47-7 to help make the school’s homecoming a joyous one Friday night at Wilemon Stadium.

Brown had scoring catches of 65, 55, 4, and 62 yards for Seguin (3-4 overall, 2-2 District 5-5A D2). The sophomore caught five total for 197 yards.

After a scoreless first quarter, Seguin scored on four consecutive possessions to take a 38-0 halftime lead. The Cougars’ first touchdown drive was 80 yards in 10 plays. Quarterback JJ Johnson fumbled in his backfield, but scooped it up, and scampered 15 yards to his left for the touchdown and a 7-0 lead.

The speedy Brown then got behind his man for the second TD. He made the catch near the sideline at about the Joshua 20 from Sirawn Evans, who alternated with Johnson as signal caller, to complete the 65-yard play. Evans did the most of the passing while Johnson did most of the running.

Seguin’s third touchdown was a 5-yard run by Kayden Randall. It came after an interception made at midfield by 3-star Washigton commit Diesel Gordon falling out-of-bounds. A 15-yard penalty on the same play set up the drive at the Joshua 35.

Randall, who had not been used until then, ran on all but the first of the five plays giving Seguin a 22-0 lead. The fourth touchdown came with 42 seconds left before intermission. Once again, Brown’s number was called and the swift wide receiver again got behind the secondary this time double-covered. He caught it just beyond the end zone line from Evans for a 55-yard score and a 28-0 lead.

Down 7-0, Joshua (1-6, 0-4) missed an opportunity when a mishandled punt was recovered by Sam Petty at the Seguin 27. But six plays later, Sam Angeles 36-yard field goal attempt appeared to be just short.

With the exception of the final touchdown in the game, Seguin did not attempt a point after touchdown. The Cougars’ first pair of two-point conversions were good while the next four failed. Kicker David Adepoju drew big applause from the Seguin faithful when he was finally called upon to kick the final extra point which was good.

Last week against Ennis, Joshua rallied from 28-7 down at halftime to pull to within two, 28-26 before eventually losing 49-26. This week it was not to be. The Owls went three-and-out on their opening possession of the second half.

Gordon made a running catch of the punt from his 39 and returned it to the Joshua 7. Two plays later from the 4, Brown pulled in a lob over his head on a fade route in the end zone from Evans for a 34-0 Seguin advantage.

The contest was penalty-marred. The two teams combined for 26 infractions for 262 yards.
