Argyle wins 10th straight Lone Star Cup, 3 from DFW finish on top UIL standings
For the 10th consecutive year, the Argyle Eagles finished on top the UIL Lone Star Cup standings. Argyle captured its 12th overall Lone Star Cup title after scoring a statewide-best 168 points in Class 4A.
The UIL Lone Star Cup recognizes the top high school in each UIL conference based on overall team achievement in sanctioned academic, athletic and music championships. The winning schools in each class receive the UIL Lone Star Cup trophy and a $1,000 scholarship.
There was no Lone Star Cup during the 2019-20 school year due to COVID.
Argyle was one of three schools from the Dallas-Fort Worth area to win a Lone Star Cup, joining Southlake Carroll (6A) and Highland Park (5A), giving DFW a sweep in the top three classifications.
The Eagles played for a state championship in girls basketball and baseball. Argyle also came in second in boys track and played in the regional final in softball. The boys basketball team reached the regional tournament.
DFW swept the top four classifications during the 2018-19 school year with Carroll, Highland Park, Argyle and Brock (3A) leading the way, marking the first time four schools from DFW won Lone Star Cup awards.
Lorena (3A), Mason (2A) and Abbott (1A) also won Lone Star Cups this year.
Highland Park won its 13th Lone Star Cup, most of all-time.
Carroll won its eighth title. Carroll teams won five state championships this year in cross country, boys and girls swimming, girls soccer and baseball.
The Dragons also won five individual state titles and four relay state titles giving them 14 total state champs.
The girls soccer team shut out Rockwall, 4-0, in April. The baseball team beat San Antonio Reagan, 8-5, on June 11.
DFW was represented by 32 schools in the Top 25 across all classifications with 10 from 6A. Four teams were in the Top-6 in Class 4A (Argyle, Celina, Melissa, Midlothian Heritage). DFW took the Top-3 in Class 5A and four of the Top-5 (HP, Lovejoy, Frisco Wakeland, Grapevine). Brock finished third in 3A.
