Boys
Wrestler of the Year
Karson Tompkins, Soph., Midlothian
Tompkins put together one of the best seasons in the state, going 46-1 overall with district, regional and the Class 5A state championship.
Out of 46 wins, 41 came by pin fall, including 10 of 12 matches in three postseason tournaments.
Tompkins, who placed third at state as a freshman, also won six tournaments during the regular season.
After losing the finals match in the first meet of the season, Tompkins went undefeated in final 11 duals and tournaments.
Team of the Year
Arlington Martin
Martin wrapped up the season with the second place trophy and 144 points at 6A state tournament, the program’s eight straight second place finish at state.
Martin had eight wrestlers place at state with three in the title match and two state champs.
Coach of the Year
Pat Dunn, Arlington Martin
The Warriors scored 668 points in three postseason tournaments (223 average). They won the district championship with 275 points. They also won the 6A Region 1 tournament for the 10th straight season.
First Team
106 Isaak Arevalo, Fr., Arlington Martin: Capped off his first high school season with a 6A state championship. Finished the season with a 35-3 record.
113 Gabe Aldaco, Jr. Grapevine: Won 53 matches capped off with a trip to the 5A state championship final. State runner-up.
120 Shawn Ryncarz, Jr., Arlington Martin: Regional and state champion for the Warriors. Only two losses on the season (34-2).
126 Zachary Evans, Sr., Arlington Martin: Placed at regional (second) and at state (sixth). Reached the state quarterfinals and won 29 matches.
132 Eli Biermann, Soph., Midlothian: 38-4 overall record and third place medal at 5A state meet. Reached the state semis. Won the Region 2 championship.
138 Julian Garnica, Jr., Arlington Bowie: School’s only boys state qualifier this season went to state semis and finished third. Won the regional title and went 39-5.
145 Anthony Schmidt, Sr., Midlothian Heritage: Reached the state quarterfinals. Went third at district and regional meet. Also went to final match in five regular season tournaments winning three titles.
152 Julius Alfaro, Jr., Arlington Martin: 6A Region 1 champ went third at state tournament. Reached the state semis and went 34-4.
160 Grayson Carpenter, Fr., Arlington Martin: Wrapped up freshman year with regional championship and state runner-up finish. 37-6 overall.
170 Hasnat Raza, Sr., Byron Nelson: 59-7 overall record with a trip to the 6A state final. Finished in second place. Also won regional championship.
182 Karson Tompkins, Soph., Midlothian: 2022 all-area Wrestler of the Year.
195 Henry Bumgarner, Sr., Midlothian: Won 35 matches and went to the state semifinals. Sixth at state, second at regional and won four tournaments including at district.
220 Tristan Winters, Sr., Keller Timber Creek: Went 48-4 with highest state finish in program history. Only second Falcon to win regional title.
285 Riah Ostrander, Jr., Keller Timber Creek: Won 43 matches this season while wrestling up a weight class. Weighs anywhere from 218 to 225 during the week. Won three tournaments including district meet. Finished third at regional.
Second Team
106 Kody Tanimoto, Soph., Keller Central: Reached the state semifinals after upsetting the No. 1 wrestler in his weight class. Fourth at state. First at district, third at regional.
113 River Perlungher, Jr., Arlington Martin: Regional champ finished third at state tournament. Reached the state quarterfinals and won four consolation matches.
120 Noah Clayton, Sr., Midlothian Heritage: Won the 5A Region 2 championship. Won four consolation matches to reach third place match. Finished fourth at state.
126 Justin Maricle, Sr., Byron Nelson: After third place finish at regional, went to the state quarterfinals and won 48 matches.
132 Jack McDonald, Soph., Byron Nelson: Won over 50 matches and reached the state quarterfinals. Won four tournaments including district meet.
138 Cole Bennett, Sr., Southlake Carroll: Finished 37-10 with second place finish at regional and state tournaments.
145 Kole Bailey, Sr., Grapevine: Reached the state quarterfinals and won 32 matches. Finished second at district and fourth at regional.
152 Nicholas Holloway, Sr., Birdville: Reached state quarterfinals and went 33-7 overall. Finished runner-up at regional and was district champion. Also won four regular season tournaments.
160 Braden Manners, Jr., Keller Central: Went to the state quarterfinals and won over 40 matches. Won four straight tournaments including district meet.
170 Hayden Ulrich, Sr., Colleyville Heritage: Won the 5A Region 2 title and wrapped up the season with 58-10 record. Finished fourth at state.
182 Logan Mantezolo, Sr., Byron Nelson: 6A Region 1 champion finished the season fourth at state. Reached the state quarterfinals and went 45-11.
195 Lou Petkus, Sr., Southlake Carroll: Second at district and was only Carroll boys wrestler to win regional championship. Won 32 matches.
220 Peter Etheredge, Sr., Southlake Carroll: Reached the state semifinals and went 43-12 to finish in third place. Second at regional meet.
285 Jeremy Joice, Jr., Birdville: Won 26 matches and was a state qualifier. Won one match at state and also came in second at regional meet.
