Aledo, Mansfield Legacy soccer standouts voted the area’s best high school athletes
The votes are in!
Anyone missing high school games yet?
The UIL suspended the athletic season until at least May 4 due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
So let’s do something fun.
Last June, I completed my fifth year covering high school sports for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. In August, I came out with my Half-Decade team, highlighting the best athletes in my coverage area for the past five years.
It included 59 male and 41 female athletes ranging from football, volleyball, basketball, soccer, softball and baseball (sports I’ve covered since Day 1).
Sorry cross country, track, golf, tennis, swim and wrestling....you’re awesome too!
Both winners come from soccer as Mickey Maloney (Aledo) beat out Grapevine pitcher Connor Neuman in the boys bracket. Kyleigh Hall (Mansfield Legacy) beat out Southlake Carroll point guard Kennedy Leonard in the girls.
Maloney, who’s now at Austin College, was an all-area and all-district defender for the Bearcats and helped the program reach a state tournament.
Hall, who’s now at A&M Corpus Christi, was an all-area and all-district goal keeper for the Lady Broncos and helped the program reach multiple regional tournaments.
