Top track and field star Jasmine Moore announces her commitment

Jasmine Moore, who was named Texas Gatorade Girls Track and Field Athlete of the Year last season, has committed and signed with national champion Georgia.

Georgia’s women indoors and men outdoors teams won championships last season.

“I chose Georgia because I felt at home and was genuinely happy there. I trust all the coaches and felt like they cared for me as a person not just an athlete,” Moore said. “Lastly it came down to the coach, I really think coach Petros Kyprianou can take me to the next level.”

The Mansfield Lake Ridge senior announced it during Thursday night’s watch party in front of family and friends. She also considered Florida, Florida State and Texas.

Moore, who’s the No. 1 triple and long jumper in the country, defended her Class 5A state title in the triple jump with a score of 45 feet and 4 3/4 inches last season, which would have been a state and national record, but the UIL announced that the wind reading was too high to make it official.

Moore, who was named the Star-Telegram girls track and field athlete of the year, also won her third straight title in the long jump and helped win the Eagles a title on the 4x200 meter relay.

Moore made her second USA Track and Field team last summer where she won the gold medal in the triple jump at the Junior Outdoor Championships and silver in the long jump.
