You voted for volleyball and football players of the week. Here are the winners
Volleyball player of the week: Alyssa Lackey, Brock
Lackey, a multi-sport athlete at Brock, poured in a career-high 20 kills during the final home game of her career. The senior hit .326 and added 2 aces, 19 digs and 1 block. The Eagles went on to beat Peaster 3-2 on October 23.
Brock (29-12) finished second in the district standings and won its playoff opener on Monday against Bowie. Lackey tied the team-lead with 23 digs. The Eagles take on Eastland, 8 p.m. Thursday at Graham in the 3A Region I area round.
Lackey has over 200 kills (2nd on the team), 350 digs (3rd) and 55 aces (1st) this season.
Week 9 Football Players of the Week
QB: Ken Seals, Weatherford
Seals, the top pro-style 2020 quarterback in the state, threw 17 of 26 for 367 yards and 4 TDs as the Kangaroos defeated Abilene 42-23 on the road and kept their playoff hopes alive.
RB: Roshawn Prear, Grapevine
The Mustangs took care of their rivals from Colleyville Heritage and Prear led the offensive attack with 122 yards rushing and 2 TDs. Grapevine improved to 7-1 with a 59-20 victory.
WR: Chance Luper, FW Christian
Luper made the most of his four catches vs. Frisco Legacy with 228 yards receiving and 3 TDs as the Cardinals won 41-13.
DEF: Timothy Drysdale, Grapevine
Drysdale helped the Mustangs take home the “Battle of the Red Rail.” The senior linebacker scored TDs on a 45-yard pick-six and 93-yard fumble return to go along with his 10 tackles. Drysdale was also named defensive player of the week by the DMN.
SP: Eduardo Mercado, Fossil Ridge
Mercado kicked the game-winning 30-yard field goal as time expired to give the Panthers a 20-19 victory over Timber Creek. He also hit from 26 and made both PATs as Ridge erased a 16-3 halftime deficit.
