Plano knocks off Keller, Forney going to state; Eaton, Carroll baseball sweep

Plano 2, Keller 1

The Wildcats are going to the state tournament for the first time since 2011 after knocking off the two-time defending champs in a one-game playoff for the 6A Region I title Friday at Denton Ryan.

Plano (26-4) scored runs in the fourth and fifth innings on two Keller errors.

Emily Knight’s bloop single in the fifth landed just fair past first base and Lily Ray scored from third.

Keller (31-3-1) took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Alexa Langeliers drove a ball up the middle to score Caraline Woodall.

Audrey McNeill allowed seven hits and struck out two for the Wildcats, and left eight runners stranded. Dylann Kaderaka allowed six hits and struck out 11 for the Indians.

Keller’s Kasey Simpson and Hanna Jones wrapped up four-year careers with the varsity team, where they went to four-straight regional finals and owned a 124-22-2 record. They were 34-7 in the playoffs and won 22 of 24 rounds.

Forney 4, Hallsville 3

The Jackrabbits hung on late to win Game 2 on Friday in Van and complete the sweep of the 5A Region II final.

They advance to state for the first time since 2012.

Forney (31-6) led 4-1 after five innings. Hannah Holdbrook and Tatum Stover hit RBI singles in the second. Sam Coker led off the fourth with a solo home run and Caroline Tedder singled in Trinity Cannon in the fifth.

Hallsville chipped away with runs in the sixth and seventh.

With one out left to clinch a state berth, Holdbrook fielded a hit to right and threw out a runner stretching for third to seal the win for the Jackrabbits.

Forney won 4-1 in Game 1.

BASEBALL

Haslet Eaton 8, Lubbock Cooper 1

The Eagles swept Cooper to advance to the 5A Region I final. Riley Taylor capped it off with a shutout on Saturday.

Taylor allowed seven hits and struck out 10 batters.

Eaton (30-8-1) scored three runs in the third to take a 4-0 lead. Cade Winquest and Jarod Seals recorded back-to-back RBI singles.

Seals also dominated from the mound during Game 1 on Friday. He pitched 6.2 innings and struck out nine. Sean Klein went 3 for 4 with an RBI. Zach Wilson and Brock Webber both had two hits.

Southlake Carroll 3, Keller Timber Creek 1

The Dragons rallied to beat the Falcons and complete the sweep. They advance to the 6A Region I final.

TCU signee Mateo Gil homered in the first to give Timber Creek (29-11) a 1-0 lead.

Carroll (31-6) took a 2-1 lead in the third with RBI sac flies from Cole Johnsonn and Will Quillen.

Nicco Cole allowed a run on four hits with seven strikeouts.

The Dragons rallied to win 5-3 in Game 1.
