TCU football beats out Baylor, Kansas for versatile wide receiver
TCU football added one of its top recruiting targets late Monday night with a commitment from Kobe Haynes.
Haynes is listed at 6-foot, 205 pounds and stars at Whitney High which is about an hour drive from Fort Worth. Haynes is the highest ranked TCU commitment coming in as the No. 77 wide receiver nationally and the No. 87 prospect in Texas, according to 247Sports.
“I built a great relationship with the staff,” Haynes said during his commitment ceremony on Youtube. “They offered me this past year and since they offered me it’s been uphill ever since.”
Haynes had an electric junior season accounting for 3,552 all-purpose yards and 45 touchdowns while leading Whitney to a 10-3 record. Haynes committed to TCU over Kansas, Stanford and Baylor and intends to play receiver at TCU.
“I really want to make an impact early on, so I want to do everything I can to be on the field as early as I can,” Haynes said. “That’s really my biggest thing.”
Haynes also cited his relationship TCU’s quarterback commitment Brice McCurdy as a big reason he picked the Horned Frogs.
“I have one of my best friends going there to play quarterback,” Haynes said. “It’s been a childhood dream to play with each other.
TCU now has 12 commitments in a class that ranks No. 69 in the country.
