TCU football unveils new alternate uniforms for season opener in Ireland

TCU football will wear new jerseys for its season opener against North Carolina on Aug. 29 in Dublin, Ireland.

The program unveiled a set of all-black alternate uniforms that offer a new take on a classic look. The Horned Frogs previously had one of the country’s most unique jerseys with a spike pattern around the collar, but the program went for a more simple design starting in 2024.

The alternates return the spikes to the jerseys, albeit with a bit of a twist. The collar on the black jersey is now purple with a pattern of white spikes going around the collar. There are also flecks of red embedded throughout the pattern.

The horned collar is also on the shoulder on the jerseys with a purple stripe next to another set of white spikes with splashes of red beside them. The alternate uniform will also see the return of “frog skin” numbers with a distinctive pattern.

The Horned Frogs will wear a purple helmet with the all-black uniform featuring the Horned Frog mascot holding a four-leaf clover in its mouth.

Fan reviews on social media appear to be mixed, with some approving of adding the design to the jersey while others are still longing for the original spike collars to return.
