Former Big 12 Player of the Year from TCU waived by WNBA team

Former TCU women’s basketball standout Hailey Van Lith was waived by the Chicago Sky on Monday before the start of her second season in the WNBA.

Van Lith was the No. 11 overall pick in the 2025 WNBA draft after helping lead the Horned Frogs to their first Elite Eight in the NCAA Tournament. She averaged 17.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.2 steals to earn Big 12 Player of the Year.

Van Lith averaged 3.5 points, 1.1 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 12.4 minutes per game in her rookie season with Chicago.

“Thank you, Hailey. Wishing you nothing but the best ahead,” the Sky posted on X.

Van Lith’s release was “based on Chicago’s ‘style of play preference,’” ESPN reporter Kendra Andrews said.

Van Lith is talking “with a number of different teams” about a roster spot, Andrews said.

Former TCU standout Marta Suarez, the No. 16 overall pick in this year’s draft, was waived by the Golden State Valkyries on Saturday.
