TCU men’s basketball’s hopes of making the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament nearly got a massive boost Thursday.
No. 16 seed Siena led No. 1 overall seed Duke by 11 points at halftime, but the Blue Devils, who were 28.5-point favorites, rallied for a 71-65 victory in Greenville, South Carolina.
After surviving, Duke (33-2) has been installed as 10.5-point favorite over No. 9 TCU (23-11) in the second round at 4:15 p.m. Saturday in Greenville (CBS).
Duke is -580 on the money line — a bet on who will win the game regardless of the point spread — which implies an 85.3% chance of victory. A bettor would have to wager $580 to profit $100 on the Blue Devils. TCU is +420, meaning a bettor would profit $420 on a $100 wager if the Horned Frogs win.
The total — the combined points scored by the teams — is 138.5.
Besides being the No. 1 overall seed in the tournament, Duke is No. 1 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 1 in the heavily respected KenPom ratings. TCU is the equivalent of No. 30 in the AP poll (fifth in others receiving votes) and No. 42 in KenPom.
