TCU football adds offensive assistant who made ‘30 under 30’ list
TCU football continued to reshuffle its offensive staff with another hire Friday.
UConn running backs coach Antonio Wilcox is expected to be the next running backs coach for the Horned Frogs, replacing Jimmy Smith, who is headed to Georgia Tech.
Wilcox is the second addition to the staff of new offensive coordinator Gordon Sammis. TCU officially announced the hiring of quarterbacks coach Brad Robbins on Friday. Robbins previously served as the Tulsa offensive coordinator and coached with Sammis at UConn in 2024.
Wilcox also has ties with Sammis, as he spent the past three reasons coaching the Huskies’ running backs. Considered a fast riser, Wilcox, 29, was named to the 247Sports “30 under 30” watch list of young coaching talent entering the season.
This season Wilcox helped develop running back Cam Edwards, who had a career-high 1,240 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Wilcox will walk into a strong situation at running back thanks to the emergence of sophomore Jeremy Payne down the stretch of the season. Payne scored the game-winning touchdown against USC in the Alamo Bowl and also had two straight 100-yard rushing games to finish the regular season in wins over Houston and Cincinnati.
True freshman Jon Denman is another player the program feels good about.
