Nick Saban calls TCU’s Josh Hoover one of college football’s best quarterbacks
TCU quarterback Josh Hoover is one of the most accomplished returning starters in college football, and former Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nick Saban praised Hoover on “College Football Countdown” before the Horned Frogs’ game against North Carolina on Monday on ESPN.
“[Josh Hoover] may be the most underrated quarterback, or under-the-radar quarterback in the country,” Saban said. “This guy almost threw for 4,000 yards last year and 27 touchdowns. This guy’s a pure passer. He’s very athletic, but he can process and get the ball out of his hand quickly and accurately as well as anybody I’ve seen so far this year.”
Last season, Hoover threw for 3,949 yards with 27 touchdowns and 11 interceptions and added four touchdowns on the ground while leading the Horned Frogs to a 9-4 record and a win in the New Mexico Bowl.
While Hoover might be under the radar, he hasn’t gone unnoticed, as the quarterback was coveted by SEC power Tennessee before spurning the Volunteers to stay in Fort Worth.
The college football world also has it eyes on Hoover, who was selected on the preseason watchlists for multiple awards, including the Davey O’Brien Award, Maxwell Award and Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award.
