Former Aledo, TCU quarterback injured in first game as Oklahoma State starter

Former Aledo standout and TCU transfer Hauss Hejny endured a frustrating debut as the starting quarterback at Oklahoma State on Thursday, and now he won’t be on the field for a while.

The redshirt freshman suffered a broken bone in his left foot that will require surgery during the Cowboys’ 27-7 win over UT Martin, and he will miss at least five weeks, according to multiple reports.

Hejny played in four games for TCU last season after being a three-star recruit at Aledo, then entered the transfer portal.

As a high school senior, Hejny led the Bearcats to the Class 5A Division I state championship in 2023 and was the Star-Telegram’s Offensive Player of the Year.

His first game at Oklahoma State couldn’t have started better, as Hejny led the Cowboys on two straight touchdown drives to open the contest. The first traveled 71 yards on 10 plays, capped by Hejny’s 6-yard run. The second went 93 yards in nine plays, finished off with Hejny’s 10-yard TD pass to Gavin Freeman to put the Cowboys ahead 14-0.

Hejny was injured on the third drive and didn’t return. He completed 5 of 10 passes for 96 yards and rushed for 27 yards on four carries.

Zane Flores, a redshirt freshman who lost the quarterback competition with Hejny before the season, came in and completed 13 of 20 passes for 136 yards and ran for eight yards on three carries.

The schedule does Oklahoma State no favors, as the Cowboys next travel to face No. 7 Oregon on Sept. 6.
