TCU football picks up commitment from four-star recruit Vincent Johnson Jr.
TCU football landed a huge commitment from four-star offensive tackle Vincent Johnson Jr. on Sunday night.
From Sulphur Springs, Johnson is rated the No. 312 prospect nationally and a top-50 recruit in the state of Texas in the 247Sports composite rankings.
Johnson took an official visit to TCU in early May and soon declared the Horned Frogs his No. 1 school right after.
“The visit was great, my family and I really enjoyed it,” Johnson told the Star-Telegram after his visit in May. “My favorite thing about the visit was getting to talk with the coaches and learning about the academic sides of the school.
Despite late visits to Baylor and Kansas State, the Horned Frogs were able to secure Johnson’s services.
Johnson was selected all-state by multiple publications in 4A after a stellar year at Sulphur Springs.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, Johnson has great size and physicality. He was instrumental in helping Sulphur Springs win 10 games last season and believes he can help any program out with his play on the field and his intangibles off of it.
“I’m a good leader,” Johnson said. “I’m physical, smart and an athletic football player that’s also a good student.”
TCU made Johnson a priority and also hosted Johnson on an unofficial visit on March 29 during spring camp. The staff also took a helicopter to visit Johnson at the end of January.
The extra effort paid off as Johnson becomes the second-highest ranked prospect in TCU’s 2026 recruiting class behind Arlington Martin standout Jesse Ford. TCU’s recruiting class currently sits at No. 46 in 247Sports’ recruiting rankings and No. 9 in the Big 12, but that could change quickly if TCU is able to land more targets during the summer.
