TCU football in the lead for four-star offensive lineman Vincent Johnson Jr.
Recruiting is about to start heating up for TCU football in the class of 2026 and the Horned Frogs currently find themselves in great position with one of the best tackles in Texas.
After taking an official visit to TCU on May 2, four-star tackle Vincent Johnson Jr. says the Horned Frogs are his No. 1 team at the moment.
“The visit was great, my family and I really enjoyed it,” Johnson said. “My favorite thing about the visit was getting to talk with the coaches and learning about the academic sides of the school... (TCU) is my number one at the moment.”
Johnson is ranked the No. 307 overall prospect nationally and the No. 40 prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports composite rankings. Johnson was selected all-state by multiple publications in 4A after a stellar year at Sulphur Springs.
Listed at 6-foot-5, 310 pounds, Johnson has great size and physicality. He was instrumental in helping Sulphur Springs win 10 games last season and believes he can help any program out with his play on the field and his character off of it.
“I’m a good leader,” Johnson said. “I’m physical, smart and an athletic football player that’s also a good student.”
While many prospects are focused on getting paid from name, image and likeness and earning quick playing time, Johnson is focusing more on which program will give him the best chance to succeed in the long run.
“I’m looking for a school that gives me a chance to make the next level,” Johnson said. “A place that also has good academics and a place that can make me better as a person.”
TCU checks a number of those boxes especially with NFL development as Horned Frogs offensive line coach A.J. Ricker helped developed Steve Avila and Brandon Coleman into NFL draft picks for the Los Angeles Rams and Washington Commanders. Johnson said he has a close relationship with Ricker.
The Horned Frogs have made Johnson one of their top priorities and also hosted Johnson on an unofficial visit on March 29 during spring camp. The staff also took a helicopter to visit Johnson at the end of January.
The hard work could be about to pay off as Johnson enters the final stages of his recruitment.
“I’m narrowing my recruitment down and trying to commit next month,” Johnson said.
That could mean good news for the Horned Frogs, but TCU will have to stave off rival Baylor as the Bears are slated to host Johnson on his only other scheduled official visit early in June.
If TCU is able to land Johnson, he would be the second highest rated prospect in a class that currently ranks No. 38 in the country.
