Third TCU men’s basketball player enters transfer portal
TCU point guard Frankie Collins has entered the transfer portal, he announced late Monday.
Collins was TCU’s most impactful player, but only appeared in nine games before suffering a season-ending injury against Vanderbilt in December.
Collins averaged 11.2 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.4 assists for the Horned Frogs. Collins was a solid point guard with his slashing ability and athleticism while also being one of the team’s top defenders. TCU never fully recovered from his injury.
Collins started his career at Michigan and then spent two seasons at Arizona State before transferring to TCU.
A senior, Collins would need a medical redshirt waiver to have another year of eligibility.
Collins is the third TCU player to enter the portal joining Vasean Allette and Isaiah Manning.
Allette spent just one season at Fort Worth after transferring in from Old Dominion in the preseason.
Allette was gifted isolation scorer who averaged 11.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. But Allette’s shot selection left much to be desired as he only shot 38% on the season and he also struggled with turnovers as he was forced to play point guard after the season-ending injury to Collins in December.
Allette averaged nearly three turnovers a game and only shot 22% of his 3-point attempts.
It’s not a surprise to see the redshirt freshman Manning enter the portal after playing sparingly in his two seasons in Fort Worth. Manning redshirted in 2023 and appeared in 24 games this season.
Manning averaged 2.0 points and 0.8 rebounds as he averaged less than 10 minutes per game. The former Mansfield Legacy standout desired a bigger role, but the Horned Frogs have a strong nucleus at forward with freshmen David Punch, Micah Robinson and Jace Posey.
Sources says freshman standout Punch is undecided on his future with TCU, but hoping to make a decision soon.
