TCU men’s basketball guard Vasean Allette intends to enter transfer portal
TCU men’s basketball guard Vasean Allette intends to enter the transfer portal, the Star-Telegram confirmed on Saturday.
On3 was the first Allette’s intention to enter the portal once it officially opens on Monday, March 24. Allette spent just one season at Fort Worth after transferring in from Old Dominion in the preseason.
Allette was gifted isolation scorer who averaged 11.4 points, 4.1 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. But Allette’s shot selection left much to be desired as he only shot 38% on the season and he also struggled with turnovers as he was forced to play point guard after the season-ending injury to Frankie Collins in December.
Allette averaged nearly three turnovers a game and only shot 22% of his 3-point attempts.
TCU has internal and external options to replace Allette, including a potential medical redshirt for Collins. There’s also young guards Ashton Simmons and RJ Jones that redshirted this season.
The Horned Frogs also signed Duncanville standout Kayden ‘Bugg’ Edwards who could be a candidate for early playing time.
In the transfer portal, TCU is an early name to watch for Iowa guard Brock Harding and the Horned Frogs made his top six along with Oklahoma State, Louisville, South Carolina, Texas Tech and Washington.
Harding averaged 8.8 points and 5.3 assists for the Hawkeyes this season.
TCU has also reportedly reached out to UNLV guard Jaden Henley (12.5 ppg, 4.2 rpg) and Georgia State guard Zarique Hunter (14.2 ppg, 3.1 rpg, 2.1 apg).
As for current Horned Frogs, redshirt freshman forward Isaiah Manning could be a name to watch when the portal opens Monday. The former Mansfield Legacy standout has been unhappy with his role for some time according to sources and could look for a change of scenery.
The Horned Frogs are prioritizing bringing back the freshmen core of Micah Robinson, David Punch, Malick Diallo and Jace Posey for next season.
TCU went 16-16 this season and didn’t participate in a postseason tournament.
