TCU defensive end Landyn Watson isn’t going into the NCAA transfer portal after all.

Watson submitted paperwork to enter the portal on Thursday, but decided to stay with the Horned Frogs on Friday, he told the Star-Telegram.

Watson, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 242 pounds, saw action in only one game as a true freshman last season. He appeared in the season-opening victory over Duquesne.

He is expected to compete for a greater role in 2022, particularly with pass rushers Ochaun Mathis and Khari Coleman leaving the program this offseason.

TCU finished last in the Big 12 with just 15 sacks last season. New defensive coordinator Joe Gillespie is expected to help the defense get back on track, transitioning to a 3-3-5 scheme from Gary Patterson’s signature 4-2-5 defense.

Watson joined the Frogs as a three-star prospect out of Hutto in 2021. He drew interest from a number of programs, including LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Michigan State and Penn State.

The Frogs start spring practices on March 22 with the spring game set for Friday, April 22, at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
