TCU women’s soccer repeats as Big 12 regular-season champions
The TCU women’s soccer team is a back-to-back champion in the Big 12.
The Frogs secured the league’s regular-season title with a 1-0 victory over Texas Tech on Thursday night in Lubbock. TCU won its first conference championship last season.
“Our kids worked really hard all year, especially after a long season last year, to come back and do it again is incredible,” TCU coach Eric Bell said. “I’m very proud of our group and happy for them and what they’ve accomplished. What this group has done for this program is fantastic.”
TCU started its women’s soccer program in 1986 and continues to reach new heights under Bell, who is in his 10th season after taking over in December 2011.
The Frogs reached the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament last season, and they certainly will be looking to make a deeper run this season.
Next up, though, is the Big 12 tournament starting Sunday in Round Rock. TCU (15-2-1, 6-1-1 Big 12), the tournament’s No. 1 seed, will face No. 8 seed Iowa State at 11:30 a.m. The game will be televised on Big 12 Now on ESPN+, the league’s streaming service.
A couple players to keep an eye on as TCU enters the postseason include sophomore goalkeeper Lauren Kellett, who posted her eighth shutout of the season on Thursday, and senior forward Messiah Bright, who scored the game’s lone goal on Thursday. Bright has 10 goals on the season.
