The TCU men’s basketball team will be ringing in 2022 in Lawrence, Kansas.

The Big 12 announced its schedule on Wednesday and the Horned Frogs open league play at Kansas on Jan. 1. TCU has never won a game in Lawrence, going 0-10.

The opening stretch doesn’t get easier, either.

The Frogs are then home against West Virginia on Jan. 3. The Mountaineers are coming off another NCAA Tournament appearance under Bob Huggins in 2021.

TCU’s next game is against the reigning national champion Baylor Bears on Jan. 8 in Fort Worth. TCU visits Baylor on Feb. 19. The Frogs lost to the Bears by 18 points in their one contest last season after the other matchup was canceled due to the pandemic.

Outside of the tough opening stretch, here are more takeaways from the Big 12 slate:

▪ After the KU, WVU and Baylor games, TCU faces an easier road with games at K-State (Jan. 12), Oklahoma (Jan. 15), Oklahoma State (Jan. 19) and at Iowa State (Jan. 22). The Frogs may be favored in most, if not all, of those games. K-State is coming off a 9-win season, although two of those wins came against TCU, while Oklahoma State is rebuilding without Cade Cunningham. OU and Iowa State, meanwhile, are under first-year coaches in the Big 12.

▪ TCU has back-to-back road games in league play only once. The Frogs are at Baylor (Feb. 19) and at Texas (Feb. 23) in consecutive games.

▪ KU comes to Fort Worth on March 1. The Jayhawks are 9-1 in Fort Worth.

▪ Another home game of note is Jan. 25 when new Texas coach Chris Beard and the Longhorns visit. Beard went 7-2 against TCU as head coach at Texas Tech.

Women’s schedule

The Big 12 released the women’s schedule Wednesday as well.

TCU’s women open league play by hosting Kansas on Jan. 2 followed by road games at Baylor (Jan. 5) and at Iowa State (Jan. 8). Baylor comes to Fort Worth on Feb. 19.

The women’s conference schedule concludes with a home game against Kansas State on March 5 followed by the Big 12 tournament in Kansas City (March 10-13).
