TCU football coach Gary Patterson and his staff continue to build the 2022 recruiting class.

The Frogs landed another commitment over the weekend from Saraland (Alabama) defensive tackle Trevon McAlpine. McAlpine is the fourth commitment of the 2022 class, joining receiver Matthew Golden, tight end Tevita Noa and offensive lineman Cade McConnell.

McAlpine announced the news on his social media account, writing: “I’m havin’ my way ... 100% Committed.”

McAlpine, who is listed at 6-foot-3, 280 pounds, is a three-star prospect and the No. 77 interior defensive lineman prospect in the country, according to 247Sports. He also had offers from programs including West Virginia, Colorado, Arizona State and Kansas State.

TCU will lose a number of defensive tackles following this season. Among the seniors are Corey Bethley, Terrell Cooper, George Ellis III and Kenny Turnier.

The Frogs’ recruiting class is currently ranked ninth in the 10-team Big 12 and No. 66 in the country, according to 247Sports.

TCU opens the 2021 season against Duquesne on Sept. 4. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Amon G. Carter Stadium.

Staff update

DeMontie Cross is no longer on Patterson’s staff. Cross had served as director of player personnel since 2018, rejoining the program after serving as Missouri’s defensive coordinator in 2016-17.

Cross’ first stint at TCU was from 2013-15 as co-defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Taking Cross’ place as a defensive analyst is Adam McGuire, who was a graduate assistant on the video staff last season.
