TCU sending more players to the NFL Combine than any other Texas-based college
TCU football went 5-7 last season, falling short of bowl eligibility for just the third time in the Gary Patterson era.
But the Horned Frogs had plenty of talent on the roster, evident by seven players receiving invites to the NFL Scouting Combine later this month at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
Wide receiver Jalen Reagor, running backs Sewo Olonilua and Darius Anderson, offensive linemen Cordel Iwuagwu and Lucas Niang, defensive tackle Ross Blacklock and cornerback Jeff Gladney are all headed to Indianapolis.
Reagor, Blacklock and Gladney have all been projected as possible first-round talents. Niang is another highly-touted player, although he’s recovering from hip surgery that cut short his senior season.
Anderson had an impressive showing at the Senior Bowl last month, boosting his stock. Iwuagwu has gained steamed in recent weeks as a possible Day 3 pick, as well as Olonilua.
With those seven receiving invites, TCU will have the most representatives of any Texas-based college. Baylor is next with six players followed by Texas (four), Texas A&M (four), Texas Tech (three), SMU (two) and North Texas (one).
TCU also has the most representatives among Big 12 programs. Outside of the Texas schools, Oklahoma is sending four followed by Kansas (two), Oklahoma State (one), Iowa State (one) and West Virginia (one). Kansas State does not have an invitee.
The seven players is the most TCU has had invited to the NFL Combine since 2001. That year featured eight TCU players, headlined by future Hall of Fame running back LaDainian Tomlinson.
Other invites were DE Aaron Schobel, FS Curtis Fuller, FB George Layne, WR Cedric James, DT Shawn Worthen, OG Michael Keathley and OG David Bobo.
The Combine will run from Feb. 23-March 2.
