Manor’s Lemear commits to TCU, plans on being a ‘playmaker’ for Horned Frogs
TCU football landed its second commitment for the 2021 recruiting class on Tuesday night.
Manor defensive back Devin Lemear announced his intentions to play for the Horned Frogs. Lemear is the first defensive player in TCU’s 2021 class.
Lemear announced his commitment on Twitter, writing: “Blessed to be able to continue to chase my dreams. #Committed.”
Lemear, who is 6-foot, 165 pounds, visited TCU last weekend and simply felt comfortable on campus. He also liked the Horned Frogs being known as a defensive program under Gary Patterson.
“Some of the best safeties in the country [play at TCU],” Lemear told the Star-Telegram shortly after his commitment. “Their staff does a great job preparing their guys every week and that is something I want to be a part of.”
As far as what kind of player he envisions himself becoming at TCU, Lemear said: “I plan on being a playmaker.
“I can come up for the run and make plays when the ball is thrown in my direction. At the end of the day, I’m going to be a playmaker.”
Manor has become somewhat of a pipeline for TCU in recent years. Sophomore defensive end Ochaun Mathis played there, and so did 2020 recruit Tyler Guyton.
Lemear does not have a ranking on 247Sports at this time, but Horned Frog Blitz publisher Jeremy Clark described Lemear as an “under the radar recruit.”
“I feel this is a big steal for the Frogs,” Clark said. “He was a defensive leader on a very good Manor team last season. His high school runs a similar defense as TCU, so the transition to the Frogs secondary should be seamless for him. If you watch his film, he displays tremendous ball skills and an ability to make tackles in the open field.
“I believe he will do big things in the secondary for the Frogs, most likely as a free safety. This is a huge get early on for the Frogs.”
Along with Lemear, TCU has landed one other 2021 commit in Alexander Honig, a quarterback from Germany who committed last summer.
TCU is in the final stages of putting together its 2020 recruiting class with signing day next Wednesday (Feb. 5). The Horned Frogs will then go through spring ball with a spring scrimmage tentatively set for April 4 at Amon G. Carter Stadium.
TCU opens the 2020 season at Cal on Sept. 5.
