TCU’s QB competition getting stiffer, possibly for next season

TCU’s quarterback room is getting more crowded.

Ohio State transfer Matthew Baldwin is coming to TCU, according to a report by 247 Sports.

Baldwin is a former four-star quarterback from Austin Lake Travis who entered the transfer portal last month following his redshirt freshman season.

According to the report, Baldwin is expected to request a waiver to be eligible for next season. With Urban Meyer retiring from Ohio State, Baldwin’s chances of landing it could be improved.

“This is another great recruiting haul for the coaching staff, particularly Sonny Cumbie who has been able to land some top names at quarterback in recent years,” recruiting expert and Horned Frog Blitz publisher Jeremy Clark said. “Baldwin had an interesting recruiting process considering he didn’t start at Lake Travis until his senior season. He put up massive numbers and ended up being one of the most heavily recruited quarterbacks in the country.

“Even though TCU had Justin Rogers committed at the time, they still showed Baldwin interest. He brings a strong and accurate arm to the group and while he may not be as quick and agile as Delton and Duggan, he does possess the ability to make plays with his feet.”

Baldwin would join the quarterback competition for the starting job along with K-State graduate transfer Alex Delton, true freshman Max Duggan and redshirt freshman Justin Rogers.

Mike Collins is also in the QB mix for TCU, as he’ll be fully healthy by fall camp.
