TCU has absolutely owned Texas since entering the Big 12 — and the numbers prove it
When TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012, a large number of college football fans and pundits were skeptical the program could replicate the kind of success it enjoyed as a member of several non-Power Five conferences.
Plenty of those skeptics were fans of the Texas Longhorns. Head coach Gary Patterson didn’t (and still doesn’t) recruit large numbers of four and five-star players, and adding TCU to the Big 12 meant the UT faithful could finally prove that the programs were miles apart on the field.
Unfortunately for all the followers of Bevo and the Longhorns, things have gone in the opposite direction, with TCU consistently dominating the Horns. And if you don’t believe us, just take a look at the numbers.
Since TCU joined the Big 12 in 2012:
0 Texas has zero wins in Austin against the Frogs.
2 UT has (by most accounts) been favored in two of the six games against TCU.
2.8 Texas has averaged 2.8 yards-per-carry against TCU in their last six meetings.
3 Gary Patterson already has wins over three different Texas head coaches (Mack Brown, Charlie Strong and Tom Herman).
4 TCU wide receiver KaVontae Turpin has caught more receiving touchdowns (four) in two games against the Longhorns than he has against any other team. That includes SMU, a team he’s faced three times.
4.45 The Frogs have averaged 4.45 yards per carry against the Longhorns.
5 TCU has won four games in a row. A TCU victory would give the program its longest winning-streak over Texas in school history at five games.
6.7 Texas has averaged 6.7 yards per completion against TCU since 2012.
9.6 TCU running back Darius Anderson has averaged 9.6 yards per carry in his two games against UT.
10.6 In the Longhorns’ three home losses in Austin, Texas has averaged 10.6 points per game on offense.
10.8 TCU has beaten the spread by an average of 10.8 points per game.
12.6 In the six games, Texas has scored an average of 12.6 points per game.
22.3 TCU has won by an average margin of victory of 22.3 points in games played in Austin.
65 In the past six games against Texas, TCU has beaten the spread by a combined 65 points.
120 TCU has outscored Texas by 120 points in the two teams’ last four meetings.
185.16 TCU has averaged 185.16 rushing yards per game against Texas.
202 Anderson has rushed for 202 yards in his two games against Texas. It is his highest total against any team.
