Grapevine star continues to shine for Texas Tech; team snaps streak in Stillwater
Alan Bowman is off to a historic start at Texas Tech and he’s only a true freshman.
The former star high school quarterback at Grapevine, Bowman has already been in the news after he was named QB of the Week multiple times following his record performance against Houston.
Now he’s helped the Red Raiders to another accomplishment in the young season; a win in Stillwater.
Tech traveled to play No. 15 Oklahoma State on Saturday and crushed the Cowboys 41-17 to snap a losing streak to OSU that dates back to 2008.
It was the program’s first win in Stillwater since 2001.
The Red Raiders trailed 10-7 in the first quarter and 17-14 in the second, but shut out the Cowboys 17-0 after halftime.
Bowman threw for 397 yards on 35 of 46 passing and 2 TDs. In four games and three starts, he’s thrown for 1,557 yards and 10 TDs while completing 72 percent of his passes.
The game was aired on FS1. The broadcasters said this of Bowman as time was expiring, “I don’t think you can replace him at all, he’s got this team, this is his football team. He’s played awfully well, the first true road test for him and he passed with flying colors.”
Bowman was named the National Quarterback of the Week by both Davey O’Brien and the Manning Awards after he threw for 605 yards on 45-of-59 passing against Houston, which broke a Big 12 freshman record for passing yards in a single game. He broke former Tech QB Patrick Mahomes’ record of 598 from the 2014 season.
