Minnesota Lynx guard Olivia Miles has gotten off to a blazing WNBA start
While at TCU Olivia Miles set records, and she’s continued to do so since being drafted No. 2 overall by the Minnesota Lynx in the 2026 WNBA draft.
Miles set a record for the most points generated through 15 games, calculated by adding points and points from assists together, with 485. That surpassed the previous mark set by Dallas Wings superstar Paige Bueckers (472), and this was the third season in a row the record has been broken with Caitlin Clark (449) setting the previous high mark before Bueckers.
Lynx head coach Cheryl Reeve talked about Miles’ quick chemistry with the roster before her last game, where Miles scored a career-high 31 points with four rebounds and four assists on a ridiculous 80% shooting in the team’s 99-83 win over the Los Angeles Sparks.
“It was instant in terms of chemistry, and she’s really mature,” said Reeve. “[Lynx veterans] have been so good with her in terms of letting her be herself. ... When you need to teach her something, teach her something, but otherwise let her go.”
Miles has been an excellent student this season, especially of late. Over her last six games, Miles has scored 24 points or more four times and has been averaging 23.8 points per game with 4.8 rebounds and 4.8 assists.
Her points-per-game number, if it were to hold for the season, would be the third highest in the WNBA this season behind A’ja Wilson (26.1) and Kelsey Plum (25.0).
Miles is the runaway choice for WNBA rookie of the Year, according to oddsmakers, with -2500 odds at this point, and even factors into the MVP race with the fifth-best odds (+2000), trailing Wilson, Bueckers, Plum and Clark.
The most impressive fact might be that the Lynx have done all of this without their best player Napheesa Collier, who has yet to play a game this season recovering from a left ankle injury.
Miles will return to the Metroplex when the Lynx play the Dallas Wings — who will be looking to avenge their 100-76 loss earlier in the season — on Sunday, June 28 at College Park Center.
