Large hail, damaging winds coming this weekend to break up North Texas’ hot fall
Severe weather is possible in North Texas over the weekend.
A cold front will move through the region during the day on Saturday, Oct. 18, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Thunderstorms are expected to develop west of Interstate 35 West in the mid to late morning hours, and spread east across the region throughout the day.
The main severe weather timing is 2-6 p.m. Saturday, according to the NWS. Large hail and damaging winds will be the main threats with a few of the storms.
Around sunset, thunderstorms are expected to exit the region to the east.
Cold front to bring cooler weather
In addition to storms, the cold front will also bring cooler temperatures to North Texas, albeit briefly.
The cool down will be felt on Sunday, Oct. 19, with daily highs in the upper 70s and overnight lows in the mid-50s, according to the NWS. However, warm weather will return next week.
Daily highs will be in the low 90s on Monday, Oct. 20, followed by highs in the mid-80s for much of the week. Sunny skies are also in the forecast for most of the week, although the NWS said there will be a slight chance of rain around this time next week.
It’s been a relatively warm October in North Texas, in fact, this year holds the record for the latest arrival of overnight temperatures in the 50s, according to the Dallas Morning News. The previous record was Oct. 16, 2007.
North Texas will have its best chance to reach overnight lows in the 50s on Saturday night, according to the NWS.

- Saturday, Oct. 18 - 89 degrees, 40% chance of storms during the day and 20% overnight
- Sunday, Oct. 19 - 77 degrees
- Monday, Oct. 20 - 90 degrees
- Tuesday, Oct. 21 - 82 degrees
- Wednesday, Oct. 22 - 84 degrees
- Thursday, Oct. 23 - 83 degrees, 20% chance of storms
