Here’s why it looks so dusty outside in Fort Worth — and when it will clear up
Visibility across North Texas will be hindered Friday afternoon by dust blowing in from West Texas.
A high wind warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Friday for several parts of North Texas, including Fort Worth and Dallas, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Some areas could see wind gusts from 40-60 mph Friday.
As of 4 p.m., visibility is anywhere from 3 to 6 miles across parts of the D-FW area. The current air quality in much of the Metroplex is moderate, although areas near Denton and Lewisville have air quality that is unhealthy for sensitive groups, according to Air Now.
The high winds are causing hundreds of flight cancellations across Dallas Love Field and Dallas Fort Worth International Airport on Friday.
Tips during high winds
The NWS encourages folks to do the following amid the high winds:
- Secure loose outdoor objects.
- Be cautious while driving lightweight or high-profile vehicles on east to west roads.
- Avoid any activity that could start a fire.
- Prepare for any sporadic damage, such as downed trees or power lines.
