Wednesday forecast for Fort Worth: Snow flurries, extreme cold warning in effect
All of North Texas is under an extreme cold warning through Thursday morning.
Many North Texans woke up to snow flurries and temperatures in the 10s on Wednesday morning, according to the National Weather Service Fort Worth. Flurries are expected to continue into the late morning hours Wednesday.
Minor snow accumulations have been reported in parts of the region, with the greatest collections across Grayson County just downwind of Lake Texoma, according to the NWS. The biggest areas to watch for are bridges, overpasses and untreated roads.
Nevertheless, the NWS said travel impacts are expected to remain minimal Wednesday. Hundreds of flights were delayed at DFW Airport Wednesday morning.
Extremely cold temperatures through Thursday
Much of the Metroplex will remain below freezing through Friday afternoon.
Wind chill values across North Texas ranged from -10 to 2 degrees around 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to the NWS. Wednesday’s daily high will be in the upper 20s, followed by overnight lows in the 10s.
Wind chill values on Thursday morning could be as low as -10 degrees in some parts of the Metroplex. Thursday’s daily high will be in the low 30s, followed by overnight lows in the 20s.
Temperatures will get into the upper 30s Friday and continue to increase over the weekend, leading to highs in the 60s Sunday.
During winter weather, the NWS reminds folks to protect the four P’s: people, plants, pets and pipes. Several emergency shelters are open this week for individuals or families needing warmth.
