The National Weather Service in Fort Worth has issued a freezing fog advisory for portions of the North Texas area until 9 a.m. Saturday morning, Jan. 11.

The advisory comes after temperatures dipped back below freezing after a day of melting snow in the area. The alert includes Tarrant and Dallas counties and areas to the north and east of the Metroplex.

Freezing fog can limit visibility to three miles or less as well as create slick spots on untreated bridges and overpasses, according to the weather service.

In addition to freezing fog, officials with the National Weather Service are warning of black ice on roadways from refreezing water overnight.

Officials urge residents to drive with caution and wear appropriate footwear to prevent fall injuries when walking. If driving in fog, slow down, use your low-beam headlights, and leave plenty of distance between you and other drivers.

Black ice will lead to hazardous driving conditions Friday night into Saturday morning, Jan. 11, 2025, across much of North Texas, according to the National Weather Service. Traffic conditions may rapidly deteriorate as temperatures plummet into the teens and 20s, quickly refreezing any liquid on the roadways.
