Residents in Arlington and Fort Worth may have their trash pick up delayed by winter weather.

The National Weather Service is expecting 1 to 4 inches of snow across North Texas between late Jan. 8 through Jan. 10.

Both cities are monitoring the situation closely.

Arlington’s garbage contractor, Republic Services, hopes to decide about changes late Wednesday, said Arlington city spokesperson Susan Schrock in an email to the Star-Telegram.

Both cities are using their social media to keep the public informed. Fort Worth has an app for garbage and recycling pickup that residents can use to get notified about potential changes.

Arlington will use the CodeRED notification system to send text messages and emails about weather-related service disruptions.

Fort Worth canceled trash pick up after a January 2023 ice storm brought city services to a halt. Pickup resumed a week later and residents were allowed to put four extra bags of trash out next to their cans to make up for the missed pick up.
