Want to help those who have been hit by Hurricane Beryl? Here’s what you can do
Hurricane Beryl swept through the Caribbean last week and made a debut as a tropical storm in Houston this morning.
Texas hasn’t experienced nearly the amount of damage that the Caribbean has. The Category 4 storm hit the Caribbean in Granada, Venezuela, Jamaica, St. Vicent, and Mexico. Between these five places, nine people were reported dead as well as countless homes, businesses, and schools were severely damaged or destroyed.
Hurricane Beryl in Texas doesn’t quite classify as a Category 1 hurricane, with maximum wind speeds only reaching 70 mph. Instead, this east Texas storm is considered to be a tropical cyclone or tropical storm.
Despite the lesser wind speed, in Houston, two people have been reported dead due to fallen trees, as well as eight people needing to be rescued from high water. 2.7 million residents have also lost power due to the crazy winds and amount of rain. Flooding has taken over some freeways and trees are cut down across the city.
If you are not in the path of Hurricane Beryl but wish to help those who have been affected, there are many ways you can help.
