Hurricane Beryl made landfall in South Texas early Monday morning and is en route to pass by the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex later in the day.

Beryl made landfall around 4 a.m. Monday in Matagorda, a small Texas town about 100 miles south of Houston. As the storm hit the coast, it was downgraded from a hurricane to a tropical storm, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The latest modeling from the NHC shows that Beryl is moving north along the eastern border of Texas and will pass through Louisiana, Arkansas and Missouri in the next 24 hours.

So what does this mean for Dallas-Fort Worth?

How will Tropical Storm Beryl impact Dallas-Fort Worth?

Since Beryl is moving north along the eastern border of Texas, Dallas-Fort Worth will only get a sample size of rain compared to East Texas.

The biggest impacts in the region will be heavy rainfall and flooding for cities such as Palestine, Canton and Paris, said Hunter Reeves, a meteorologist at the National Weather Service Fort Worth office.

Dallas-Fort Worth proper may only see up to two inches of rain from Beryl over Monday. Along with the rain, the region could see wind gusts up to 35 mph throughout the day.

“The heaviest rain will definitely be out to our east because that’s where Beryl is tracking right now,” Reeves said.

After Beryl vacates Texas overnight Monday, it will move northeast clipping Louisiana before moving directly through Arkansas on Tuesday.
