Will Hurricane Beryl impact Dallas-Fort Worth? What to know about the Category 4 storm
The first hurricane of the Atlantic season is currently moving towards Mexico, but will that have an impact on Dallas-Fort Worth?
“We probably won’t see much up here in North Texas,” said Steve Fano, lead meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
Hurricane Beryl is presently moving west across the Caribbean and will arrive in southern Mexico by Friday morning, according to the National Hurricane Center. Beryl is the first hurricane of the Atlantic season, which runs from June 1 to Nov. 30.
Based on tracking models, North Texas shouldn’t see any real impact from the Category 4 storm, not even the moisture associated with such a weather event, Fano said.
However, since Atlantic hurricane season is here, other storms could develop and potentially impact the North Texas region over the next few months. But for now, it’s smooth sailing.
“Right now, there’s no immediate threat on the horizon,” Fano said.
Hurricane Beryl makes landfall in Caribbean
Hurricane Beryl made landfall on Grenada’s Carriacou Island Monday morning, moving through the Windward Islands.
The National Hurricane Center expects flash flooding and heavy rainfall across the Windward Islands through Monday afternoon. The agency is asking residents in the Grenada region to shelter in place and not venture out in the storm.
Hurricane Beryl is expected to remain powerful as it moves across the Caribbean Sea this week, according to the center. A hurricane watch has been issued for Jamaica, as interest in the Cayman Islands, Belize and the Yucatan Peninsula are increasing.
