Triple-digit temperatures will continue in Dallas-Fort Worth this week ahead of storms cooling down the region over the weekend.

North Texas has recorded 100 degrees twice this year thus far, with both occurrences coming in June. Beyond the heat, the region hasn’t recorded any measurable rainfall since June 11, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

Temperatures will hover around 100 degrees this week, NWS lead meteorologist Steve Fano said.

Heat index values will range between 105 and 110 degrees this week, Fano said. This means that those celebrating the Fourth of July holiday on Thursday will be in for a scorcher.

“Definitely no break through the holiday,” Fano said.

A “cold” front coming

However, a weak cold front will move into Dallas-Fort Worth on Friday and knock temperatures down into the mid to upper 90s.

The cold front will bring low rain chances to the region over Friday and partially Saturday, Fano said. North Texas has a 20-30% chance of rain during the day on Friday, a 30% chance overnight Friday and 20% chance on Saturday.

“Not great chances, but at least it’s something,” Fano said.
