Dallas-Fort Worth shoppers, drivers must be weather alert as 1-3 inches of rain expected
North Texans traveling this weekend for Christmas will need to stay alert as heavy rain is coming.
Rain chances will gradually increase Saturday, with scattered showers in the afternoon leading to heavier rainfall after 6 p.m., said Sarah Barnes, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.
Saturday evening and overnight, the Metroplex is expecting nearly a 100% chance of rain, Barnes said.
Rain will continue into Sunday before storms gradually move east of the Metroplex throughout the day. In total, the NWS is expecting one to three inches of rainfall, Barnes said.
As drivers are out and about for last-minute Christmas shopping on Saturday, the NWS is asking Texans to stay weather alert.
“Of course, if you see water on the roadways don’t try to drive into it,” Barnes said.
Rain chances will dissipate throughout Sunday, as a cold front moves into the Metroplex.
The cold front will cool off Christmas Day into the upper 40s to low 50s, Barnes said. But the rest of the week will warm slightly to the upper 50s to low 60s.
After the rain this weekend, North Texans can expect dry skies next week.
“Looks like quiet weather is going to stick around at least into late next week,” Barnes said.
