North Texas is in for a rainy few days before drying off in time for Christmas.

Moderate rain chances move into the Metroplex late Thursday and early Friday, with rain possibility increasing going into the weekend, said Miles Langfeld, meteorologist at the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office.

North Texas’ biggest chance of rain comes on late Saturday into Sunday, as an upper level storm moves into the area with a cold front, Langfeld said. Across North and Central Texas, rain chances will be in the 70% to 90% range.

In total, North Texans can expect around one to three inches of rainfall from Thursday to Sunday, but severe weather isn’t in the forecast.

“Late Thursday through pretty much Sunday, we’ll just see on-and-off periods of light to moderate rain showers,” Langfeld said. “Maybe a few thunderstorms during that late Saturday to Sunday period.”

Rain chances will taper off Sunday evening in North Texas, moving to a relatively dry Christmas Day on Monday.

Christmas temperatures will start in the mid-40s, before warming up to a high in the upper 50s and ending the day in the mid-30s, Langfeld said. North Texans can also expect a cloudy Christmas, along with a few light rain sprinkles.

“Most of the heavier precipitation should be well east of the area by Christmas,” Langfeld said.
