School closings, delays in Fort Worth and Tarrant County Friday due to winter weather
With freezing weather continuing into Thursday and possible bad road conditions early Friday morning, parents and students should prepare for potential school closings or delays.
Here’s what to know so far about weather-related school closings in Tarrant County, including when and how you’ll be notified. Fort Worth and several other school districts will operate on a delayed schedule Friday, Feb. 25. Several districts in the county closed schools Thursday. Many announced early release Wednesday and canceled after-school activities.
Aledo ISD: Open on regular schedule Friday, Feb. 25.
Arlington ISD: All classes in the Arlington ISD will start two hours late on Friday. Bus service will also run on a two-hour delay. Lunches and after-school activities will occur on their regular schedule.
Azle ISD: Azle ISD will be on a normal schedule for Friday, February 25. Buses will run regular routes and activities and events will resume as scheduled.
Birdville ISD: Schools were closed Thursday.
Burleson ISD: Will operate on its regular schedule Friday. Buses will run on regular schedules.
Carroll ISD: Carroll ISD will open Friday and operate on normal school and office schedules. The district will continue to monitor road conditions through the night. Any changes to school and office schedules will be communicated before 6 a.m. on Friday.
Castleberry ISD: The district has scheduled a two-hour delay for Friday. Parents should continue to check the district website, social media sites and Canvas for updates. To update your contact information for use with the mass-messaging system, visit the Contact Preferences page.
Crowley ISD: Crowley ISD will have a two-hour delay for all schools on Friday. Elementary schools will start at 9:35 a.m.; middle schools at 10 a.m.; high schools at 10:35 a.m.
Eagle Mountain Saginaw ISD: All schools and offices will open on regular scheduled Friday.
Everman ISD: Everman ISD will be closed Friday.
Fort Worth ISD: Fort Worth ISD will start with a two-hour delay on Friday, which will apply to employees as well as students. On Friday, elementary schools will open at 9:50 a.m.; middle schools at 11:15 a.m.; high school at 10:25 a.m. School staff are asked to report at the usual time. Transportation employees should report two hours later than usual. All non-UIL after-school events on Friday are canceled, including the Fort Worth After School Program. Head coaches will communicate with athletes about any change in schedule for games. Schools were closed on Thursday, and the snow day will be made up on May 27.
Godley ISD: Will resume a normal schedule Friday.
Grapevine-Colleyville ISD: Classes are expected to resume on Friday. The district will continue to monitor the situation and will send a final update prior to 6 a.m. on Friday. Check your email and the district website for that update.
Hurst-Euless-Bedford ISD: HEB ISD schools will be open for a normal school day on Friday. Keller ISD: Classes are expected to resume on Friday, February 25. Keller ISD will not have to make up the missed day Thursday as the district’s instructional calendar includes additional daily minutes to account for such a closure. For more information, visit www.KellerISD.net/Weather.
Kennedale ISD: Kennedale ISD plans to delay the start of classes by two hours at all schools on Friday, Feb. 25.
Lake Worth ISD: LWISD will have a delayed start Friday. Collins Middle School will start at 9:30am, elementary schools will start at 10 a.m., and LWHS will start at 10:30 a.m.
Mansfield ISD: Mansfield ISD schools will have a two-hour delay on Friday due to expected weather conditions.
Northwest ISD: All schools will start on a two-hour delay Friday.
White Settlement ISD: Schools and offices will open at the regular times Friday, Feb. 25. Buses will run on regular schedule, and all activities and events will also resume as scheduled.
Colleges and Universities
University of Texas at Arlington: To allow time for travel conditions to continue to improve, UTA will open at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 25. All classes, including those online, were canceled from Wednesday after 2:30 p.m through Thursday.
TCU: TCU will reopen campus and resume classes at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 25.
University of North Texas: Classes will resume on Friday. UNT closed at 3 p.m. Wednesday and remained closed through Thursday, with all classes, including those online, canceled.
Texas Woman’s University: All classes on the Denton and Dallas campuses will be held remotely Friday, Feb. 25. Select buildings on the Denton campus will have modified hours.
Texas Tech University Health and Science Center: Mansfield and Dallas campuses were closed Thursday.
