A wind advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. Friday until 6 p.m Saturday.

A strong cold front was expected to hit North Texas beginning Friday night. The cold front will bring strong northwest winds into Saturday morning and afternoon.

“West of I-35, humidity will drop to 15-20% with gusty southwest winds. There will be a high grass fire threat in this area [Friday] afternoon,” the weather service said. “Sustained winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts to 50 mph can be expected.”

After high temperatures in the 70s late this week, Saturday will also bring widespread freezing temperatures with wind chills dropping temperatures to below 20 degrees.

Snow flurries will be possible Saturday night, but no accumulations or travel impacts are expected, the National Weather Service said.

“It will be a cold and windy day on Saturday with highs in the 30s and 40s,” the weather service said. “With low temperatures in the 20s and northwest winds 15-25 mph and gusts to near 35 mph, wind chills will be in the teens and 20s Sunday morning.”

The cold isn’t expected to last for too long, as warm trends will continue and peak Tuesday, with expected highs in the low 70s again.

“Tuesday will be the warmest day of the work week before another cold front sweeps across the region and below normal temperatures return to North and Central Texas,” the NWS said.
