Warm week expected to lead into sub-freezing New Year’s weekend in Dallas-Fort Worth

Monday set the stage for a warm week leading into a cold New Year’s weekend in Dallas-Fort Worth, according to the National Weather Service.

Monday’s high temperature in Fort Worth was expected to peak around 80 degrees.

Highs this week are expected to range from the low to high 70s until New Year’s Day, when a strong cold front is expected to bring a chance of storms during the day Saturday and sub-freezing temperatures as the sun sets. Highs on Sunday are not expected to rise above the low to mid 40s with partly sunny skies.

With lows on Saturday and Sunday nights forecast at 28 degrees, North Texans should prepare to wrap pipes, leave faucets dripping, keep cabinets open and bring pets and plants indoors.

There is a slight chance of thunderstorms Tuesday night into Wednesday, and again late Friday into Saturday, according to the weather service.

Highs this week are expected to range from the low to high 70s during the week, but a cold front will bring sub-freezing nights to the North Texas region after sunset New Year’s Day.
