Large hail, damaging winds might hit North Texas. And rain’s in the forecast for days.
Remember that stretch in March when North Texas had day after day of rain chances?
It’s back, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.
There was a 20 percent chance of showers on Thursday in Tarrant County and most of North Texas, with the best opportunity in the afternoon and evening hours.
Then, a cold front arrives Friday, bringing some possible severe weather that might include damaging winds and large hail. There’s a 60 percent chance of rain on Friday.
“The rain chances will stick around through the weekend and into next week,” said meteorologist Sarah Barnes at the NWS in Fort Worth on Thursday.
Just like in March.
North Texas residents have seen their share of rain this year. In March, the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport recorded 6.75 inches of rain, more than 3 inches above the average for the month. For the year, the airport has recorded 15.63 inches of rain, 7.35 inches more than the average for this time of the year.
Tarrant County residents should see more than a half inch of rain by Saturday. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain for Saturday night.
Forecasters say there is a low chance of severe weather for Tarrant County and North Texas for the next few days, but the biggest concern could be flooding because of consecutive days of rainfall.
Here are the rain chances for Tarrant County:
▪ Sunday, 50 percent
▪ Monday, 50 percent
▪ Tuesday, 30 percent
▪ Wednesday, 30 percent
The best chance of severe weather will be in Central Texas with heavy rainfall expected in that area from Friday through Wednesday. The Central Texas area includes Waco, Temple and Killeen.
