Flooding concerns increasing this week in North Texas as rain is in forecast for days

As if there wasn’t enough for North Texans to worry about this week, you can add flooding to that list.

Flooding concerns will increase this week as there are rain chances each day through Friday, according to the National Weather Service in Fort Worth.

And North Texans have barely seen the sun the last few days.

Lightning from storms caused a fire at a vacant home in east Fort Worth Sunday night, and another house fire was reported early Monday in east Fort Worth that also was caused by lightning, Fort Worth fire officials said Monday. No injuries were reported.

Since Friday, the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport has recorded 3.31 inches of rain. At least for the rest of Monday, there’s a slight break from the rain.

The high Monday will reach 69.

But Tuesday will be wet with daytime temperatures in the 70s.

“We’re looking at getting some heavy rain on Tuesday night and early Wednesday,” said meteorologist Eric Martello at the NWS in Fort Worth in a Monday telephone interview with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. “Then again on Wednesday night.”

On Wednesday, there’s a 60 percent chance of rain.

North Texans should see an additional two to three inches of rain by Friday.

Forecasters say that could create problems because North Texas has had plenty of rain in the past few days and that’s created saturated soils.

Thunderstorms are in the forecast each day until Friday, and some of those storms could produce heavy rains, small hail and damaging winds.
